On Sunday, 2022 combo-guard Chase Cormier committed to play college ball at Northeastern University in Boston. Cormier transferred to Georgia powerhouse Milton in the summer and has played his AAU ball with Game Elite over the course of the last few summers.

The 6’2 combo guard is ranked as a 3 star according to 247 sports and is the #10 overall player in the state. His commitment was seen as a surprise to some as he held notable offers from Florida, Hofstra, Xavier, Appalachian State, and others. Cormier is known for his smooth in-control play style and his sweet lefty shooting stroke. His improved athleticism and offensive ability have made him a highly sought after prospect. His addition to the defending state champion, Milton Eagles, makes them the favorites for the 7A State Championship.

Cormier never cut down his list of college options prior to his commitment, leaving all options on the table. I was able to catch up with the senior guard on the day of his announcement to discuss his choice.

Question: “Why did you choose Northeastern and what stood out to you most about it?”

Cormier: “I choose Northeastern University because I’m thinking about my long term goal, getting to the NBA. Most people would’ve thought I’d be going to a bigger school because of the offers I had but I just felt like the better opportunity is here for me at Northeastern where I can make an impact right away.

Question: “What type of player is Northeastern getting?”

Cormier: “Northeastern is getting a very crafty guard who can shoot the lights, but can also make plays and make everyone around him better.”

Although Cormier is looking forward to attending college up in Boston, he will not be overlooking his senior season first. He has his eyes on his first state championship ring and leading the nation’s #2 ranked public school basketball program back into national competition.
